Dear Parents, Below is a list of snacks I am requesting to put together our 100th Day snack packs. You will find your child’s assigned ingredient next to their name. If you are unable to send in these items for Monday, please let me know by Friday, so I know what I’ll need to get over the weekend. I tried to consider all the allergies in our class when composing this list. If there is anything you would prefer your child not have, please let me know. We finally had BEAUTIFUL weather on our gardening day! It seems to have been so cold and rainy lately, that we haven't gotten out there much. It was such an exciting afternoon!! We discovered a mini head broccoli beginning to grow, smelled (and tasted) mint leaves, planted lily bulbs (thank you Price family!), and fixed up our tomato plants. The children are doing wonderful garden observations in their science journals, too! Dear Families,
Today we had a wonderful new friend join our class family; Tanner Sherrin!! We are so excited to have the Sherrin family join Seaside! The children did such an amazing job welcoming Tanner into the family. We are excited to have you, Tanner! These pictures were just too cute not to share!!!!! So happy to have the opportunity to capture and share these moments with families!
PS- These boys are hysterical with their "Ms. Cairo, please take a picture and put it on Facebook for my mom" comments (; The children have done an excellent job learning about the human body! They are showing their understanding of major body parts and their functions wonderfully. Enjoy some pictures from last week as we observed and felt our spines (and the spines of others!). The children made model spines using lifesavers to represent cartilage and gummy lifesavers to represent bone. The children were able to manipulate their model spines to see how it moves and bends! We also made Q-Tip skeletons - they came out awesome! SC.2.L.14.1 Distinguish human body parts (brain, heart, lungs, stomach, muscles, and skeleton) and their basic functions. LAFS.2.SL.1.1 Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. Mrs. Stetson and are teaming up to teach handwork for the rest of the school year. This week, we decided to teach the children how to needle felt! We had such a great time. First, the children watched a quick tutorial on how to felt and a few safety tips. Then, it was time to send them off to their seats to start! Everyone started with a toothpick instead of a needle. As they showed responsibility and safety, they were given a needle! We will continue felting in the coming weeks. We are hoping to move to arm scarves and needle knitting shortly afterwards! This week, we began learning about the human body. So far, the children have been most interested in learning about the brain. They were fascinated with all of the things the brain does/controls! We finished learning about the brain by making models of the brain with beeswax.
Some of the children even created two halves that could be separated. This represented the right and left hemispheres. Woo hoo for learning! |
