Ms. CAiro's Third Grade
A HUGE thank you to Rachel Belyea (Kenzie's mom- from Mrs. PIerce's Class) for these amazing photos she captured from surfing! What a wonderfully happy day at the beach! So glad she captured memories on the shore! Lots of siblings made it into the pictures as well :)

I tried to get as many pictures of the children as I could during yesterday's surfing session! The waves were a bit intimidating, so many children weren't in the water as long as they usually are! There aren't many pictures, and there are definitely more pictures of some kiddos than others (Ryann, Margot, and Josh probably would have slept on the surfboards if they were allowed to!) I am hopeful that our make-up surf day this Wednesday, September 30th will be full of nice waves for our little surfers! Be sure to look through all 48 pictures-this is a new "slideshow" format on the blog! Thank you to everyone who allowed our second graders to interview them in the past weeks! I hope you received your thank-you letter in last week's Tuesday folder :) The children learned the parts of a friendly letter; heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature. We can check to make sure we have all the parts of a letter by singing head, shoulders, knees, and toes, replacing the body parts with the letter parts! Lots of laughs were had while we learned this fun song last week! The children have had so many opportunities to measure using centimeters and meters in the past week! Together, they have measured various objects within the classroom, as well as compared measurements of the same units. We will be completing this unit at the end of the week. This jacket was left on our sheet at the beach this afternoon when everyone had left. Size adult small- any idea who it may belong to? Our class has been asked to create a special handwork project (two, actually!!) to be sold at the fall festival to raise money for the school. While the children were working, they ALL began humming out of nowhere.... Thank you for letting me teach your children. I truly view my job as a blessing and a gift and I wake up thankful each and every single day. Even though this is a "youtube" video, it is a private video. You cannot find this video through youtube. You can only view this video through my website or through a direct link.
yesterday's surfing has been rescheduled for wednesday, september 30th, 2015.This week we have begun our unit on measurement! The children began measuring objects with centimeter cubes, and they even made their own centimeter rulers! They have discovered the correct and incorrect ways to measure, through trial and error, and comparison with their peers. We have had a lot of discussion and comparing this week! Two days a week we complete a making words activity! Each session, every child is given about six letter tiles to manipulate. Together, we change the letters to create varying words, manipulating the words to recognize patterns in spelling, rhyming, and meaning. At the end of the lesson, there is a mystery word, that uses ALL of the letters! This is such a fun and valuable part of our literacy block! |
