Ms. CAiro's Third Grade
This year, we are lucky enough to have a math and science coach, Mr. Pinchot! He is working with all of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade teachers, and co-teaching with us a few days a week! We are all very excited to learn from his expertise. This week, we have been working with numbers within ten. The children have been discovering combinations of ten (7 and 3; 4 and 6; etc.), as well as creating number bonds with ten (8 and what other number make 10?) The children have been working cooperatively to practice their addition and subtraction facts within ten, and strengthen their number sense...especially after their summer break (;

This week, I have been working a lot with the children one-on-one to complete baseline assessments and listen to their reading! During this time, they have been working independently or cooperatively on a few assignments. Towards the end of the week, the children had the opportunity to read independently around the classroom... I have NEVER seen a group of children SO excited to read books!!! They were looking forward to reading (and buddy reading) all day. Most of them were able to select "just right" books, and everyone found a cozy place to enjoy their story. You should be proud parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc.! Second Grade Birthday Celebrations!
When your child's birthday rolls around, feel free to bring a healthy snack to share with the class at lunch time (fresh fruit, fruit-based popsicles, etc). He/she will be recognized at school-wide morning circle, and will receive a birthday book from his/her friends (: If you are planning a birthday party outside of school for your child, you are welcome to send invitations to school to go home in Tuesday folders. If you send invitations to school, you must invite the entire class. I would be happy to provide you a class list to ensure that everyone is included (: I am so thankful to have such a marvelous group of second grade children to share the next 178 school days with! Class choresIf you click on the calendar link on the left side of the webpage, you will find that each child is assigned a laundry day (THANK YOU GINNY AURES!). Each Friday, one child will be responsible for taking home the class laundry, washing, folding, and returning the towels the following Monday. If you are unable to participate at this time, please let me know and I will be happy to remove you from the laundry rotation! COBY the guinea pig!Coby the guinea pig has made it to school! Though he hasn't been out and about a whole bunch in the classroom yet, he is definitely getting used to being around children again!
He LOVES going home with children on the weekend! Is there anyone who would like to take him home first? If so, please send me an email with the weekend(s) you would like to take him home, and I will add you to the calendar (located on the left of this webpage). In a few weeks, I will open this offer to other classes in the school. Coby loves to play in the grass. Ms. Cairo lives in a condo with no grass, and there are LOTS of scary critters in the grass at SCCS, so he doesn't get out as much as he would like. Please consider hosting our little bud for a weekend! (: Enjoy! The children LOVED pretending to be miners, squirrels, bug catchers, observers, and men in the wilderness. I love watching their imaginations run wild!! Hello, Families!
Tonight, Monday August 17th, I sent out an email to all families I received email information from. If you did not receive an email from me and you would like to be added to the class email list, please email me ASAP at [email protected] (: Thank you! Jen Can you believe we are starting school in just a few short weeks?? I am looking forward to getting to know all of my incoming second graders and their families.
Letters to the children will be on their way early this week! This letter will contain a welcome to second grade from me, as well as a time slot for meet and greet on Wednesday, August 12th. Please check your mailboxes! If you do not receive your child's letter by the weekend, please send me an email ([email protected]) so I can share the assigned meet and greet time with you! With Peace, Love, and Joy, Jen Cairo |
