Ms. CAiro's Third Grade
Unfortunately, the rain today prevented the children from having yoga outside. However, they had a wonderful time with Ms. Walker inside! The children absolutely adore her class. She is so wonderful!

Autumn is finally here! We are celebrating this wonderful season (my favorite season!) throughout our day, from our poems and songs to our crafts. Please enjoy some pictures of making apple sun catchers last week! They are on display in the classroom windows(: I LOVE watching the children perform their poems on Thursdays and Fridays! Thank you for practicing these poems at home with your children. They can be found in the newsletter that is sent home every Tuesday(:
We are often reading more than one book at a time in our classroom!! We have been reading a Magic School Bus book about germs. Morgan and Eden were the "teachers" for this read aloud last week!
Coby says THANK YOU for all of the wonderful donations of treats, food, bedding, chew toys, hay, and all things guinea pig!As you may have heard, someone put blue paint in Ms. Cairo's soap dispenser early this week. The children have been investigating who it could have been all week! Everyone was a suspect (including myself and Mrs. Stetson).
Gabrielle and Clara are the head of the Detective Squad in our class. They have recruited a few of the girls to join them as they try and crack the case! Friday's recess was spent finger printing and interviewing both second grade classes. Friday morning, the children wrote stories/books about what happened. WOW they are so creative! They will finish up their stories this week(: I am glad to know we have such wonderful detectives in second grade! The children LOVE practicing our weekly poem M-W and performing on Thursday and Friday! They are so creative in their performances. Last week, Thorp had a country accent, Gunner sang a song, Peyton had his puppets read, and Morgan wore wings! SO CUTE! The children are practicing their fluency during the rehearsals and performance of this poem! Thank you for practicing with your child at home! This past week, we learned about plants and the purpose of the stem! We went on a stem hunt outside, locating, identifying, and sketching different stems found around the campus. We also practiced the scientific method (making hypotheses, conducting observations) about what would happen to celery and carnations if we added food coloring to the water (thank you to Dr. Katrina Hall for being such a lifesaver)! The children were amazed to see the path of the water up the stem and to the leaves! This experiment nicknamed me "Ms. Frizzle" from the Magic School Bus...the ultimate compliment. In the slideshow below, you will find pictures of each child looking through the bottom of the cup. Ava & Cassidey were wondering if they was able to see up the stem by looking through the bottom of the cup. The rest of the children followed suit. It was a wonderful day for learning, questioning, observing, and fun! I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I enjoyed working on this with your children! They were so proud of their work, we even invited Ms. Sanders in to share our findings with her!
The letter below was sent home in your child's Tuesday folder. Unfortunately, a few of the letters were found on the ground outside of the classroom after school):Dear Parents, I am hoping to begin bread baking with the children in a few weeks. I know there are a few children with food allergies in the classroom. Please let me know which of the items on the ingredients list below will be an issue for your child ASAP! Thank you! Ms. Cairo I also apologize that the pictures on this week's newsletter are the same as last week's. I didn't realize that until after the copies were made. I will resume writing notes on your child's newsletter next week! Thank you for your understanding(:
