Ms. CAiro's Third Grade
This past week, we learned about plants and the purpose of the stem! We went on a stem hunt outside, locating, identifying, and sketching different stems found around the campus. We also practiced the scientific method (making hypotheses, conducting observations) about what would happen to celery and carnations if we added food coloring to the water (thank you to Dr. Katrina Hall for being such a lifesaver)! The children were amazed to see the path of the water up the stem and to the leaves! This experiment nicknamed me "Ms. Frizzle" from the Magic School Bus...the ultimate compliment. In the slideshow below, you will find pictures of each child looking through the bottom of the cup. Ava & Cassidey were wondering if they was able to see up the stem by looking through the bottom of the cup. The rest of the children followed suit. It was a wonderful day for learning, questioning, observing, and fun! I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I enjoyed working on this with your children! They were so proud of their work, we even invited Ms. Sanders in to share our findings with her!
