Ms. CAiro's Third Grade
Please enjoy a gallery of photos from today's outdoor creative play. There are some children from Mrs. Stetson's class in our slideshow below, because they had awesome things to share that I felt were worthy of posting on our page, too! From tug-of-war and mining with hard hats (AKA round-top cones) to natural doll and birdhouse making, these children are developing lifelong friendships and a genuine appreciation for our beautiful school and the environment.

Parents,
On Friday afternoons, I will be sending home the children's Friday Folders. They are red folders. Please SIGN the half sheet that is stapled on the inside and return to school on Monday. This is where you will put any notes or comments you would like to share with me. If the children need to take home any work from the week, I will send it home in this folder on Friday. This will cut down on the loose paper they will be I will also send home a little something on Friday, just to keep you posted about your child. This week, there was a very general letter. These will get more personal as the weeks go on and we fall into our rhythm! Thank you again to all of the parents who came to parent night last night. I hope all of your questions were answered and you feel relaxed and prepared for the upcoming weeks! I can't wait to share with you all that is to come!! Love, Jen Cairo Thursday and Friday of this week, each child brought in a bag of 3-5 items that were special to them. They were so proud of each item they brought to share. Please enjoy the pictures of your children sharing the most wonderful and special things with our class. Not only were we practicing being a good audience, but we learned so many new things about each other. Just another thing that makes our class (and school) so special. So proud of these children! PS- They shared some of the kindest words about how special their families are to them...I had tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing your children with me! What a fun way to end our week...the ice bucket challenge! Lots and hustle and bustle this afternoon, so I didn't really have time to explain ALS to the children. They just thought I had ice water dumped on my head for no reason...HA! Please enjoy this picture of the sun in our eyes, and a very cold and wet second grade teacher (and some excited children!) I encourage you to talk to your children further about what the ice bucket challenge is all about. (Check out the video of me, Mrs. Pierce, Mrs. Papke, and Mr. Connell dumping ice water on ourselves on the Seaside Facebook Page!!)
http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html The sun felt extra hot today on the playground! I am so proud of the children for remembering the importance of staying hydrated. Love Jordan's use of the tires...taking a nice break to relax and cool down for a moment! Jah'stasha, Clara, and Gabrielle constructed the most creative bird house I have EVER seen. They worked so hard (Unfortunately Gabrielle left before they were done, so she isn't in the picture..but I wanted to give her well-deserved credit!!!)
UPDATE 8/22- Thank you to the Price Family!! Yoga Mountain is no more..we have a beautiful basket!!
Are there any families out there that would like to donate a large wicker (or other natural-looking) bin to store our yoga mats? I have a wonderful corner in the room to store mats. I think it would be easiest for children to leave their yoga mats in the classroom. One less thing for them to carry to school on yoga days! Hopefully this will be easier on the children and the parents(; If you would like to send the yoga mat to school with your child on yoga days instead of leaving the mat in the classroom, that is okay too! These pictures from our outside creative play (recess) were just too awesome not to share!
Gunner utilized his recess time to meditate on top of the geodome. Yesterday, Finn created a really neat lizard habitat using plastic outdoor cones. The creativity that stems from these developing minds never ceases to amaze me! Today we practiced our learning station rotation (centers). These will eventually become our literacy centers, but for now we just practiced moving quietly from one station to the next!
Today during our morning circle, we discussed the importance of being kind of others. We discussed what being kind 'looks like', and we practiced being kind to the friends in our class.
We started with a ball of yarn. I wrapped the end of the yarn around my fingers, and rolled it to one of the children. When the child intercepted the yarn ball, I shared kind words about her. She then wrapped her fingers around the yarn, and rolled the ball to another child. She shared kind words about the child who intercepted the yarn ball. We did this until each child shared kind words & received kind words. The end result was this AMAZING web of kindness that the children created from their kind words. There was a happy teacher during circle this morning! Wow! What a wonderful first day of school! I am such a lucky teacher to have such an awesome group of children to teach every day. We hit the ground running today with our learning. We focused a lot on the expectations and procedures of the classroom. I know that we will begin to fall gently into our daily rhythm in no time.
Please enjoy a few pictures from our first outdoor creative play! Luckily, we found all kinds of little critters. I wish I had pictures of them all. This would be a great topic of discussion to have with your children this evening. |
